Description: The K20 petrol engine, 2.0 liter, which left the production line recently, the new generation of the Honda Civic Type R Mugen is here in the upgraded 2.2 version in case you weren’t too impressed in the old one, but the production plans haven’t been finalized yet.

“Environmental pressures mean naturally aspirated engines are rapidly being superseded by other engine architectures and technologies. We may never see the like of the k20 in a mainstream production car again, so felt it only fitting we mark the occasion with this special 2.2 version of the Honda Civic Type R”, said the Mugen European vice president, Hiro Toyoda, in a statement.
According to the Japanese automaker, the upgraded version of the Type R Mugen is powered by a 2.2 liter (2.156 cc) unit delivering 256 horsepower (191 kW) and 240 Nm of torque (177 lb-ft). Honda doesn’t know for now what the production plans will look like and is considering one out of two options, to convert the unsold 2010 Civic Type R Mugen or offer the conversion to existing owners.
