Toyota news: Toyota launches diesel variant of Liva and Etios Liva

Auto-manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Friday launched the diesel variants of two of its cars -- the entry-level sedan Etios and hatchback Etios Liva.
The Etios's diesel is being priced in the range of Rs6.44 lakh to Rs7.87 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi), while the hatchback Etios Liva diesel is priced at Rs5.54 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi).
According to the company, the new variants will widen the reach of the Etios brand by providing the diesel fuel option.
"We are now offering diesel variant to cater to wider customer choice. The diesel variant will provide our customers fuel economy with high performance," said Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director, TKM.
Other company officials said the decision to launch the new variants was hugely based on customer feedback and the company would also inform the customers on how to best utilise their vehicles for maximising fuel economy.
"The alternative fuel options are being offered in response to customer feedback. However, we would like to educate the customer in order to enable them to make the right choice of fuel," said Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, marketing, TKM.
Both the vehicles are powered by a 1.4 litre common rail diesel engine, with a maximum power output of 68 ps at the rate of 3,800 rpm.
The engine technology is currently used in the company's other vehicles like Innova, Corolla Altis, Fortuner, Prado and LC 200.
The exterior of the car has a distinctive Etios front grille with the shape of a smile-line and the roof has been tweaked with a unique design which provides better aerodynamics.
The car's interiors come with a boot space of 595 litre capacity for Etios and 251 litre capacity for Etios Liva.
